Sugar Awareness Week – January 18-24
Sugar Awareness Week, taking place this year between the 18th and the 24th of January aims to remind people about the damaging effect too much sugar can have on their bodies.
According to the UK government’s guidelines, “adults should have no more than 30g of free sugars a day, (roughly equivalent to seven sugar cubes) children aged 7 to 10 should have no more than 24g of free sugars a day (six sugar cubes) children aged 4 to 6 should have no more than 19g of free sugars a day (five sugar cubes).” However, this is rarely respected, thus we are seeing an uptick in sugar-related diseases, such as diabetes, as well as in obesity.
