Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Half Marathon – Feb 16
The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Half Marathon will take place in the former venue of the 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics and for the first time the course will include closed roads, allowing participants to run through the traffic free streets of the capital. People can choose a cause they support from over 450 charities and secure their spot either by signing up directly with their chosen charity or by paying for their spot/place.
Be a champion for someone else
They say that you make the world a better place one step at a time. Running for charity takes that saying literally, so no matter what cause you choose to support taking part in a half marathon will help. The route includes some of the most iconic sports venues in the UK, according to the website of the event. The course includes highlights such as the London Stadium, the London Aquatic Centre and Lee Valley Velopark and ends at the famous ArcelorMittal Orbit. These are the places where world-renowned athletes have made history with their performances in the 2012 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. The website of the event promises a fun day with live music, shops and food and drink stalls for everyone to enjoy.
Don’t know where to begin?
The best place to start is with the website of the event which not only includes all the necessary information about the day but also a handy training programme designed by Great Britain Olympic athlete Andy Vernon to get ready for a half marathon. The prospect of running over 13 miles and fundraising for a cause is a daunting one, but you don’t have to do it on your own. Invite your friends and family to support you in your training, help you fundraise or even join you and run the half marathon together.
