Cancer Research UK London Winter Run – February 7

On the letsdothis website, the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run promises that “you will be part of the UK’s largest mass participation winter event and the largest 10k in London. Places sold out just after New Year, taking us to 20,500 of you getting excited to be on the start line.”

The Route

The route aims to let runners see some of London’s iconic sites, such as Trafalgar Square, the Adelphi Theatre, the Savoy hotel, and St Paul’s Cathedral.

According to their website, once the runners approach the end, they can expect the following: “Taking a left down Whitehall the adrenaline will rise as they come to a finish just before Westminster and Downing Street. No politicians here though, just jubilation, as finishers are greeted by the famous warm Polar Bears for a victory hug and medal presentation.”

As mentioned before, 18 million people were diagnosed with cancer around the world in 2018. World Cancer Day aims to remind people that, due to research, half of those diagnosed with cancer in the UK now survive the disease for more than ten years. The goal is that 3 out of 4 people diagnosed with the terrible disease will survive it by 2034.

 

Some 25,000 people are expected to take part in the event this year alone, making it the second-largest in the UK Capital, after the London Marathon.
